Hearts of Steel Bumblebee

What with the recent Infestation 2 event and Cyclops due to make an appearance soon, I’ve been messing about with a bit of scratch-building whilst I’ve been working away from home and stuck in hotel rooms. So, here’s a start on Hearts of Steel Bumblebee. He’ll be leader-sized, so as to be in scale with Cyclops.

It doesn’t look like much at the moment, just the basic shapes, although these curves are real tedious to do in styrene. There’s quite a few layers of scored and curved styrene under there to help it all stay rigid

Next will be the leg mechanism now that I have access to my joint bin.

Movie Cy-Kill

Although originally a Gobot, Cy-Kill occasionally makes cameo appearances in the comic books; usually to be killed off as soon as the story allows.

Modifications
Cy-Kill is based on the HftD Chopsaw mold and features the following:
– Improved headsculpt. Chopsaw is a fugly beast, so the quick addition of a nose and lower jaw make Cy-Kill look a lot better.
– Holochromatic spectral chrome paint job. It doesn’t show very well in the pictures, but he has a rainbow-reflection on the chrome in good light.
– Removed the front wheel arch because Chopsaw’s hands were frankly rubbish and as a chopper is looks much better this way.
– Attached new hands to the front forks, in the same style as the original Gobot.
– The front wheel detaches from the hands and can be used as a weapon, or attached to the shoulders as per the original toy.

He’ll be going on to ebay shortly, so feel free to drop by and bid. And so, on to the pictures…

Pimp My… Devastator!

Hearts of Steel Devastator

I picked up this monster from a cheap store for the equivalent of $10. I really do hate PCCs with a passion, but Steamhammer and his drones have some lovely detail on them. I’m desperate to go to work painting him up, but could never do it while he remained a stumpy, walking clothes line. Ergo, he had to die, to be reborn as… Steampunk / Hearts of Steel Devastator!

HoS Devasator is primarily a heavily modified Steamhammer mixed with a RotF Scavenger, PCC Groundspike and random oddments from the bits box. You’ll notice that the torso has been increased in height to make it more imposing and better proportioned. Shoulders and elbows are ball jointed to replace the poor/non-existant articulation in the original model. The torso now has a swivel joint at the waist and a tilt and swivel joint at the ribs to allow for a bit of chest pumping and/ or bending down to squash some poor Autobot.

The neck and wrists are also ball jointed, and I’ll be adding some feet, again on ball joints. I have also started articulating the fingers, as the original hands were too good to lose. In all, this will be a well articulated Devy, able to bust all kinds of moves 🙂

There’s still a fair amount of work to be done; finishing off the arms, modifiying the head and providing some kick-ass weapons, but I can’t wait to paint him up. If you have an opinion on what colours you’d like to see (G1/G2/other?) then post me a comment here, Procustomizers.com or Facebook!

Optimus!

Sorry, had the tumble drier on today and couldn’t resist taking this pic. Needless to say, Driller will look a lot more menacing than a drier hose! Shocky’s chest and arm have been roughed out and will be further refined once the first layer of putty is cured.

I need to start thinking about how I’m going cut out a few hundred teeth with some reasonable efficiency, and how to make it posable. Who would have thought that a worm could be tricky?

DotM Commander Shockwave v2

image

Oh my, half past three of the AM variety. With a night free for customizing and with a distinct lack of Primes on my shopping trips earlier, I fell back on plan B. Since seeing the concept artwork for the Driller and Shockwave I’ve found a new love for a few hundred metres of Cybertronian worm. So here is the first step in the process, articulating a legends Megatron ready for some major resculpting. And then onto his vehicle!

Those of you who have looked at the galleries may have seen my first Shockwave, created from the same mold and based on only the on-set photos of the floating heads on poles. I’m really kicking myself for not taking a cast of that head before I sold it; and that was my first custom sold. And to those that ridiculed it for being left handed unlike the G1 incarnation… ner ner!
